The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has been officially released, offering a first look at its massive cast and narrative ambition.
The trailer fans have been waiting for is finally here: Marvel Studios has officially released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the most anticipated film of the year, arrives in theaters in December, bringing a sprawling cast to the screen, from Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom to the return of the X-Men. After months of only secondhand descriptions from CinemaCon, audiences can finally see it for themselves.
The footage largely matches what screened at CinemaCon, but seeing it in motion lands far harder. Among the standout moments: Gambit trading blows with Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova fighting what looks like herself before one of the two is revealed to be Mystique, and Thor squaring off against Doctor Doom, who catches Stormbreaker one-handed.
The biggest takeaway is a first real look at Downey Jr.'s Doom. The actor leans into a distinct accent to separate the villain from Tony Stark, and the trailer makes clear just how dangerous a threat he is. His one-handed stop of Stormbreaker is genuinely chilling, echoing the Infinity War moment when Thor tried and failed to hold off Thanos.
It also raises big questions about how everything fits together. The closing beat, Steve Rogers reuniting with Thor, is a thrilling note to end on, but Rogers looks markedly different, with long hair and a beard that have fans wondering whether this is the Cap they know or a version from somewhere else in the multiverse.
Off screen, the stakes are just as large. Doomsday is set to go head-to-head with Dune 3, and Disney is leaning hard into spectacle: it recently unveiled Infinity Vision, a new certification for premium large-format theaters, and is re-releasing Avengers: Endgame on September 25 to prime audiences. Everything points to a film that could be bigger than expected, both in scope and at the box office.
