The first trailer for Blade Runner 2099 confirms a major shift in the sci-fi saga, with replicants now outnumbering humanity.

The cinematic universe of Blade Runner continues to expand with the release of the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099. This highly anticipated series, set fifty years after Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, offered a glimpse into its narrative and character dynamics at San Diego Comic-Con. Prime Video is slated to premiere all eight episodes of the series on November 25, 2026, marking a significant event for the franchise.

The new footage confirms a pivotal shift in the established lore: a major war between humans and replicants has concluded, with humanity suffering a decisive loss. Replicants now hold the reins of power, outnumbering their human counterparts and dictating the future of the world. This dramatic reversal of power dynamics is visually underscored by a distinct new aesthetic, with much of the series appearing to unfold in daylight settings.

At the heart of Blade Runner 2099 are two central figures: Michelle Yeoh as Olwen and Hunter Schafer as Cora. Their partnership is forged from necessity, as they hail from opposing sides of the conflict. Schafer's Cora is introduced as a human native to this new world, while Yeoh's Olwen is a replicant Blade Runner, paradoxically tasked with hunting down rogue members of her own kind.

Yeoh's portrayal of Olwen promises a complex character, echoing elements familiar to fans of the original film. She embodies the investigative spirit of Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard, even administering a Voight-Kampff test in the trailer. Simultaneously, Olwen shares a poignant characteristic with Rutger Hauer's Roy Batty: a replicant acutely aware of her finite existence, adding layers of existential depth to her role.

The series boasts a compelling ensemble cast alongside its leads. Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi are all set to feature. This expansive cast will bring to life the intricate world of 2099, further enriching the dystopian landscape that has captivated audiences for decades.
