The complete original Gothic role-playing game trilogy is set to become fully playable on consoles by late 2026.
The original Gothic role-playing game trilogy is slated for a complete console release, making the influential series fully playable across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms for the first time by the end of 2026. This initiative by THQ Nordic will bring all three classic titles to a broader audience, allowing players to experience the foundational RPGs as they were originally released.
Gothic Classic, a faithful port of the 2001 original, debuted on Nintendo Switch in 2023 and arrived on PlayStation and Xbox consoles on July 28th. Following this, Gothic 2 Complete Classic is scheduled for release on PlayStation and Xbox on September 29th, having already been available on Switch. These releases ensure a consistent experience across current-generation systems.
The final installment, Gothic 3 Classic, will make its console debut on November 24th, exclusively for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the first time Gothic 3 has been available on any console platform. Each of the three classic games will be priced at $29.99 USD across all platforms, offering a uniform cost for the collection.
Originally released solely for PC in 2001, the Gothic series, particularly its first two entries, significantly influenced the development of modern open-world RPGs such as The Witcher and The Elder Scrolls. While a remake of the first Gothic game was released in June to a Metacritic average of 74, the publisher emphasizes the value of revisiting the original classics to appreciate their historical significance in gaming.
Despite the renewed focus on the franchise with these re-releases and the recent remake, a remake of Gothic 2 has not yet been officially confirmed. Fans, however, remain eager for further developments in the series. For now, the complete availability of the original trilogy on modern consoles provides a comprehensive opportunity to engage with these seminal titles.
