The Absolute Universe has made a name for itself by reinventing familiar DC characters in darker, more unsettling ways. Absolute Green Arrow #3 continues that trend with the shocking return of Solomon Grundy, transforming the iconic villain into one of the most disturbing creatures DC has introduced in years.

For longtime comic readers, Solomon Grundy needs little introduction. The undead giant, forever remembered by the nursery rhyme, "Born on a Monday, christened on Tuesday...", has long been one of DC's most physically imposing villains. A reanimated corpse with immense strength, rapid regeneration, and near-immortality, Grundy has battled everyone from Batman to Superman, sometimes even overpowering the Man of Steel.

Those qualities have often led fans to compare him with Marvel's Incredible Hulk. Both are towering powerhouses capable of incredible destruction, but the Absolute Universe pushes Grundy into territory far beyond simple brute force.

The Absolute Universe shifts the comparison from strength to horror.

The latest issue of Absolute Green Arrow follows Dinah Lance as she investigates the mysterious Green Arrow Killer while searching for Oliver Queen's protege, Roy Harper. As the mystery deepens, the story takes an unsettling turn when Dinah encounters a horrifying new version of Solomon Grundy.

Rather than the familiar gray-skinned zombie, this incarnation is covered with countless human eyes embedded across his decaying body, a grotesque visual that immediately distinguishes him from previous versions.

The reveal also connects to an earlier mystery involving a strange boy discovered on Oliver Queen's property, whose body displayed the same disturbing mutations. The implication is that these transformations may be linked to mysterious "anti-death" experiments taking place within Star City.

While Solomon Grundy has frequently been described as DC's equivalent of the Hulk because of his immense physical power, the Absolute Universe shifts the comparison from strength to horror.

Classic Grundy already possessed an intimidating list of abilities, including superhuman strength capable of challenging Superman, near-invulnerability, rapid regeneration, repeated resurrection through the mystical Slaughter Swamp, and resistance to physical, magical, and energy-based attacks. The Absolute Universe retains his terrifying presence while amplifying the body horror, turning him into something that feels closer to a supernatural nightmare than a traditional comic book powerhouse.

The issue raises more questions than answers. Why are these mysterious experiments covering their victims with eyes? Is Solomon Grundy simply another victim, or part of something much larger?

Even more unsettling is Roy Harper's suggestion that Oliver Queen may still be alive. If true, readers are left wondering whether the former Green Arrow could have undergone the same horrifying transformation.

With its final-page cliffhanger, Absolute Green Arrow #3 proves once again that the Absolute Universe is willing to radically reinvent even DC's most recognizable characters. Solomon Grundy has always been one of the publisher's strongest undead villains, but this new incarnation may also be its most disturbing.
