Karyn Kusama and Diablo Cody are reuniting for a Jennifer’s Body sequel, with Megan Fox confirmed to star.

A sequel to the 2009 horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body is officially in production, with original director Karyn Kusama and screenwriter Diablo Cody confirmed to return. Megan Fox is also set to reprise her role, marking a significant reunion for the creative team behind the film that has since garnered a fervent cult following.

The news emerged from a listing in Production Weekly, subsequently confirmed to be in active production. Key details reveal that Diablo Cody will pen the screenplay, Karyn Kusama will direct, and Megan Fox is confirmed to star. While Amanda Seyfried's return remains unconfirmed, the production is slated to begin filming in Vancouver, a location previously utilized for the original.

Released in 2009, the original Jennifer’s Body arrived with high expectations, pairing Megan Fox, fresh from Transformers, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, hot off Juno. Despite this pedigree and a September release, the film struggled at the box office, earning $31.6 million worldwide against a $16 million budget, and faced a largely negative critical reception.

Over time, however, Jennifer’s Body underwent a significant re-evaluation, particularly among new generations of viewers. It has been reframed as a trailblazing feminist horror film, celebrated for its sharp satire and exploration of toxic female friendships. This shift in perspective cemented its status as a cult classic, proving that critical and commercial success are not the sole arbiters of a film’s lasting impact.

The narrative possibilities for a sequel are intriguing, especially given the original's ending where Jennifer dies and Needy inherits her demonic powers. Should Amanda Seyfried return, the story could explore Jennifer's potential resurrection, perhaps more potent and malevolent than before, further delving into the complex, supernatural bond between the two protagonists.
