Krafton Chairman Byung Gyu Chang met Prime Minister Modi, confirming significant long-term investment in India's digital economy.
Krafton Chairman Byung Gyu Chang recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The meeting served to reaffirm the South Korean gaming company's substantial, long-term commitment to India's rapidly expanding gaming, technology, and digital entertainment landscape, underscoring a strategic focus on the region's creative potential.
This high-level engagement highlighted increasing opportunities for collaboration between India and South Korea, particularly in gaming, innovation, and emerging technologies. It also reinforced India's strategic aim to establish itself as a global center for digital creativity and technological advancement, aligning with national initiatives to foster local talent for international impact.
To date, Krafton has invested US$250 million in India, with plans for an additional US$250 million over the next three to four years, bringing total investment to approximately US$500 million. A US$670 million venture growth fund has also been established to support further Indian ventures. These funds aim to bolster the local gaming ecosystem, foster homegrown intellectual property, and expand into AI, robotics, and deep-tech.
Chairman Chang articulated that India presents immense opportunity, possessing exceptional talent across gaming and technology. He stated that Krafton's sustained investments underscore its long-term confidence in India and its dedication to the digital economy. Beyond capital, the company is also prioritizing talent development, exemplified by the recent launch of Kigi Academy, an initiative fostering future-ready skills in game development and digital creation.
Krafton's presence in India has also expanded through its acquisition of Pune-based Nautilus Mobile, creators of the Real Cricket franchise. This move further solidifies Krafton's strategy to cultivate Indian gaming talent and indigenous intellectual property. With comprehensive investments across gaming, startups, skill development, and frontier technologies, the company positions India as a pivotal component of its global operational strategy.
These multifaceted commitments indicate a profound and enduring engagement by Krafton within the Indian digital landscape. The company's strategic approach suggests a long-term vision for fostering innovation and creative output, positioning India as a significant contributor to its international portfolio rather than solely a consumer market.
