Jessica Jones' original creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos are returning for a new five-issue series.
Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, the original creators of Jessica Jones, are reuniting for a new five-issue Marvel mystery. Titled Jessica Jones: Alias, the limited series is set to launch in December 2026, marking the character's 25th anniversary and bringing her back to her comic book roots.
The upcoming series will see Jessica Jones return to her private investigation work, but this time, her case will take her far beyond the familiar streets of Hell’s Kitchen. She will delve into some of the stranger and more obscure corners of the Marvel Universe, starting with a missing child and quickly escalating into a much larger mystery.
Jessica's investigation will involve unusual abilities and a possible connection to the mutant world, pushing her outside the usual boundaries of her detective work. The narrative will also explore her life away from cases, including her responsibilities as a mother and her family dynamics with Luke Cage, adding depth to her character.
Jessica Jones first debuted in Alias #1 in 2001, a creation of Bendis and Gaydos for Marvel’s MAX imprint. The original series introduced a unique Marvel protagonist: a private investigator grappling with difficult cases, complex relationships, and the less glamorous aspects of the superhero world, blending crime investigation with mature storytelling.
The character gained wider recognition with Marvel’s television adaptation in 2015, starring Krysten Ritter. The show ran for three seasons, introducing Jessica’s detective stories, her complicated relationship with Luke Cage, and her confrontation with Kilgrave to a much larger audience. David Mack, associated with the original Alias artwork, also contributed to the TV series' distinctive opening titles.
Jessica Jones: Alias is positioned as more than just an anniversary celebration; it's a return to the character's origins with her original creative team. With Bendis and Gaydos back, alongside David Mack’s artwork, the project aims to appeal to longtime readers and offer new fans an entry point into the comic book history of one of Marvel’s more unconventional heroes. The five-issue series begins in December 2026.
