Paramount has officially halted development on its animated film adaptation of Tony Fleecs' comic book series, Stray Dogs.

Paramount Pictures has ceased production on its planned animated feature film based on Tony Fleecs' critically lauded comic book series, Stray Dogs. The project, which saw the studio acquire adaptation rights in 2020, will not move forward, a decision recently confirmed by Fleecs himself. This marks another high-profile property to be shelved amidst ongoing industry shifts and potential studio mergers.

Fleecs' original limited series presents a chilling premise: a serial killer collects the dogs of his victims, adding them to his growing canine menagerie. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of these dogs, who communicate with one another as they attempt to piece together their grim reality and devise an escape. The comic's distinctive "cartoony" aesthetic belied its dark, psychological thriller core.

The creator, Tony Fleecs, confirmed the project's cancellation, stating simply, "it's not happening." While the animated film will not see the light of day, Fleecs did acknowledge that the initial rights acquisition provided significant financial compensation, which he described as "the only good thing about it." This development leaves fans to ponder what the rating might have been for such a uniquely dark animated narrative.

Beyond Stray Dogs, Fleecs has continued to explore mature themes with a distinct visual style. His subsequent works include the anthology series Stray Dog: Dog Days and the ongoing Feral, which launched in 2024. Feral follows three house cats navigating a rabies outbreak, akin to a zombie narrative, and has already surpassed twenty issues. Image Comics continues to champion original concepts like Fleecs' unique contributions to the medium.
