After an 18-year hiatus, Brendan Fraser has confirmed that production for a new Mummy legacy sequel is officially underway. The film, which reunites Fraser with Rachel Weisz as Evelyn O’Connell for the first time since 2001, is set to bypass the 2008 installment and pick up directly from The Mummy Returns. This long-awaited return marks a significant moment for the beloved adventure franchise.
Fraser shared the news during an interview at the American Film Festival of Deauville, stating, "We start Monday morning." He also spoke about his physical preparation and the high level of professionalism he anticipates on set, expressing enthusiasm for the project. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence, are helming the production, which Universal has slated for an October 2027 release.
The sequel is set to feature a host of familiar faces beyond Fraser and Weisz. John Hannah will reprise his role as Jonathan Carnahan, while Oded Fehr returns as Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J. O’Connor as Beni Gabor.
