CD Projekt Red has confirmed a new remaster for its critically lauded role-playing game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This announcement follows a significant update in 2022 that brought the title to current-generation consoles and PC. The newly revealed edition, titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, was first showcased during the Gamescom Opening Night Live Stream.
The remaster introduces a suite of substantial enhancements, primarily focusing on visual fidelity. Players can anticipate greatly improved textures and character models, alongside general overhauls to performance and resolution. Beyond graphical upgrades, CD Projekt Red has also implemented refinements to core gameplay mechanics, including adjustments to horseback riding and combat systems.
Further modifications extend to Geralt’s skill tree, which has been reworked to offer a distinct leveling experience. Crucially, this comprehensive remaster will be available as a complimentary upgrade for all existing owners of The Witcher 3 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. The package also includes the game's two acclaimed expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, at no additional cost.
This new release is positioned as foundational work for future content, specifically the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past. Scheduled for a 2027 launch, this addition to The Witcher 3 is intended to provide a final narrative arc for the protagonist, Geralt, introducing him to an entirely new region within the game world.
Following Songs of the Past, CD Projekt Red plans to shift its primary focus to Ciri, who is slated to become the central protagonist in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4. The next mainline installment in the series is currently targeting a release in 2028, with availability expected across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
