Thor, the original God of Thunder, is finally set to return to Marvel Comics after a year-long absence.

Marvel Comics is preparing for the highly anticipated return of Thor, the God of Thunder, nearly a year after his demise. The Immortal Thor series concluded with its 25th issue, where Thor was killed by his brother Loki using an Eternity Mask. His human soul, Donald Blake, was then reincarnated as Sigurd Jarlson, setting the stage for The Mortal Thor series and the eventual path to his resurrection.

The Mortal Thor #14, released in 2026, marked a pivotal moment in Sigurd Jarlson's arduous trials. During this legacy issue, which is also the 800th for Thor comics, Sigurd finally uncovered the truth about Odin, Loki, and his own identity. This culmination has now positioned him to embark on a quest to bring the true Thor back into existence, fulfilling a long-awaited comeback.

Thor's death had profound repercussions beyond his own demise, effectively erasing his entire legacy on Earth. With the destruction of the Black Bridge and Rainbow Bridge by Skurge, Thor's history was rewritten, and Beta Ray Bill became the recognized Thor of Earth from the beginning. Consequently, no one on Earth, save for Bill, retained any memory of the original God of Thunder, rendering Asgardians mere myths.

Now, Sigurd Jarlson is set to journey through the Nine Realms, including Niffelheim, Heven, Muspelheim, and Jotunheim, in search of a way to revive Thor. This epic quest is expected to culminate in the God of Thunder's return, which promises to significantly shake up the Marvel Comics universe. The question remains whether Thor's return will restore collective memories or if he will initially be forgotten.

While this isn't the first time Thor has vanished and reappeared, the current circumstances are unique. Previous disappearances, such as after a Ragnarok event, did not result in a universal memory wipe. This time, the impact on Earth's perception of Thor and Asgard is far more profound. The full resolution of Sigurd Jarlson's tale and Thor's ultimate return is anticipated to unfold over the next half year or more.
