Tom Holland revealed a test screening cut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was so bad, the creatives 'hated it'.

Tom Holland recently revealed that an early cut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, heavily influenced by test audience feedback, was universally disliked by the creative team. The star described how producers incorporated "notes from all of the random people that saw the film," resulting in a version that completely missed the mark for those behind the camera.

"We watched it, and we hated it," Holland stated in an interview. He explained that while the cut reflected "what the people were asking for," it ultimately "didn’t work" for the filmmakers. This experience underscored how much a movie can transform during the editing process, teaching valuable lessons to the production team.

The decision to disregard that particular feedback appears to have paid off handsomely. The final version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned Certified Fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes, hovering around 90 percent. Box office projections are equally strong, with a domestic opening weekend expected to exceed $250 million.

Internationally, the film is already a massive success, shattering records in China with a $37 million opening day, the strongest superhero debut since Avengers: Endgame. Critics are praising the movie's return to Peter Parker's street-level roots and Holland's emotionally demanding performance, calling it his best portrayal yet.

Despite widespread acclaim, some reviews note the film occasionally overloads itself with subplots and supporting characters. Multiple villains, a new arrival played by Sadie Sink, and appearances from established Avengers sometimes compete for screen time, potentially crowding out Peter’s central arc.

Nevertheless, these minor critiques have done little to dampen the overall reception or its impressive box office trajectory. The MCU seems to have a significant hit on its hands with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, proving that trusting creative instincts can lead to critical and commercial triumph.
