DC is giving Wonder Woman a milestone: her first official, long-term relationship with a woman, and it opens on her wedding day.

The moment comes in Dark Knights of Steel II #1, written by Tom Taylor with art by Otto Schmidt and Arif Prianto. The issue centers on the wedding of Wonder Woman and Zala Jor-El, the character's returning love interest.

Zala is no minor player in this world. In the medieval-fantasy continuity Taylor and Jasmine Putri launched in 2021's Dark Knights of Steel, she is Superman's sister, which makes the marriage a defining event for both heroes' families.

It also marks a first. Per DC, this is the first time Wonder Woman has been placed in an official, long-term relationship with a female character in its lore, giving the union weight beyond a single storyline.

The celebration does not stay peaceful for long. The ceremony is interrupted by the arrival of the mythical Kraken, and Zala collapses under mysterious circumstances, accompanied by an ominous prophecy from Oracle hinting at darker turns ahead.

It is a characteristically bold swing for Taylor's corner of the DC multiverse, pairing a landmark relationship with the kind of cliffhanger that guarantees the fallout will run for issues.
