Crunchyroll has quietly thinned its anime library again, and this time the cuts have hit a cult favorite at the worst possible moment.
The streaming service has removed three titles from its U.S. catalog: Black Lagoon, the action series Blood Blockade Battlefront, and the underrated isekai Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions, all without any announcement.
Black Lagoon's departure stung the most. As the only platform legally streaming the series in the U.S., its removal left fans with no easy way to watch it.
The timing made things worse. Black Lagoon's manga had only recently resumed serialization after a long, indefinite hiatus, reigniting hopes for new anime, hopes the sudden delisting immediately complicated.
It fits a familiar pattern. Crunchyroll has previously pulled acclaimed titles like Claymore and Death Parade, with removals typically tied to expired licensing deals and, at times, efforts to trim less-viewed content from the library.
Critically praised or not, once viewership fades these series rarely return quickly, which makes their quiet disappearance all the more frustrating for the fans who kept watching.
