Masterlynx, an Indian manga duo, will debut their series Kung Fu Kung Fool in Japan on May 15, 2026, via Kadokawa.
India-based manga creators Jivan and Yash, operating under the name masterlynx, are preparing for their professional debut in Japan. Their action-comedy series, Kung Fu Kung Fool, is scheduled to begin serialization on May 15, 2026, at 11 AM on Kadocomi, Kadokawa’s official manga portal platform. This follows their victory in Kadokawa Corporation’s Wordless Manga Contest last year.
The brothers began working as masterlynx in 2022, drawing inspiration from established Japanese manga traditions. Their talent was recognized in 2025 when they secured the silver prize at the Kadokawa-hosted international Wordless Manga Contest for their submission, Heartsteel. This achievement paved the way for their upcoming professional serialization, highlighting their journey from aspiring creators to published artists.
This debut represents the first major success story to emerge from Kadokawa’s international talent development initiative, the Kadokawa World Manga Atelier. This project was specifically established to discover, mentor, and support overseas manga creators, guiding them toward professional publication within Japan. Kadokawa has also confirmed that preparations are actively underway for additional international contest winners to make their professional debuts in the near future.
Kung Fu Kung Fool is characterized as an action-comedy that skillfully blends Japanese cultural themes with broader Asian influences. The series incorporates elements such as traditional kung fu practices and the rich folklore surrounding the legendary outlaw Goemon. This cross-cultural narrative approach reflects masterlynx’s distinctive creative style and their ability to weave diverse storytelling traditions into a cohesive work.
The production process for Kung Fu Kung Fool exemplifies Kadokawa’s collaborative international workflow. Masterlynx originally penned the story in English, with Kadokawa’s world manga editorial team then adapting the Japanese dialogue and sound effects. This entire project was completed through remote collaboration between the creators and the editorial staff, demonstrating modern publishing capabilities.
With the impending launch of Kung Fu Kung Fool, masterlynx becomes one of the first India-based manga creators to achieve a professional serialization debut in Japan under a major publisher. This significant milestone not only validates their unique artistic vision but also underscores the expanding global reach and interconnectedness of the contemporary manga industry, opening doors for more international talent.
