Witch Hat Atelier delivered one of 2026's most striking debut seasons. According to its creator, the follow-up is setting out to grow in every direction.
The first season wrapped in June 2026 after airing through the spring, adapted by studio BUG FILMS from Kamone Shirahama's manga, which has run in Kodansha's Morning Two since 2016. A second season has since been confirmed, and while there is no release date yet, a teaser is already out.
Speaking to Crunchyroll, Shirahama offered a sense of where the story is heading. She said the world will feel much wider and more expansive, with deeper themes and new sides of magic for viewers to discover.
She also encouraged audiences to pay close attention to the choices her characters make, framing the sequel less as a bigger spectacle than as a richer, more layered continuation, and admitting she is eager to see how fans react.
Season 2 will resume right where the first left off, in the middle of its cliffhanger: the attack in Serpentback Cave, where Qifrey stands between his apprentices and danger. Promotional material has hinted that Coco will begin tapping into new magical abilities she may not yet be able to control.
That thread, a young apprentice uncovering power and secrets faster than she can handle them, has been central to Witch Hat Atelier's appeal from the start.
After a production that was reportedly delayed before arriving to acclaim for its animation, the series returns with high expectations and, if its creator is to be believed, an even bigger story to tell.
